Trees (old and new)

I notice the old trees
the stately ones
tall, wide-boughed
still leaf-bare in this
early spring
climate changed
upside-down March
standing tall reserving
judgement bearing
the deep knowledge of season upon
season.

I notice the young trees
shorter
edge-wood dwellers
showy with blooms,
colors, or new leaves
calling attention
giving reason to celebrate
to forget that the equinox hasn't
equalled the days yet
that cold will still make a comeback
celebrating today because tomorrow
might not hold anything worth
celebrating.

The world needs both
old trees with long memories
and young trees appearing
without caution
coexisting sharing
loving
making a forest for all of
us
